Hello Stranger

Hello, Stranger

Prologue

“Trying to forget someone you love is like trying to remember someone you've never met.”

Tip of the Iceberg

A few years earlier...

Audrey: "Charlie! Shut up, ok?" I say edging forward in his face, trying my best to seem intimidating. His face forms a ridiculous grin that makes me wonder if he‘s had too many beers. Walking into the kitchen, beer kegs line the island counter with people taking turns to fill their plastic cups. Hiding behind the kegs are punch bowls with wandering ladles drifting from one side to another. Someone bumps into me in all the hustle and bustle to the drinks and I have a claustrophobic moment. This mainly consists of me closing my eyes and breathing deeply. Why did I even come here? Seriously a dorm party as a date? Speaking of date, where is he? My eyes fling open and I see Charlie eye’s surveying my body. His fingers lace through mine, tugging.

About Writiki.com

Writiki.com is the writing wiki project. We have created a collaborative environment where anyone who wants to write can come on the internet and contribute. The key element is the collaboration. And the question is, can a large group of people come together and write a story, or even a novel-length piece of creative writing together?

The goal on Writiki.com is to prove that yes, we can. We want to show that a lot of imaginations putting ideas into words can produce a work that is unique and interesting. In fact, we believe in the possibility so much that we're willing to bet that it will happen many times. That's why we've developed an open structure for people to not only work on existing stories, but to start new ones as well. We hope for lively discussion on the discussion forum, and people helping people, giving advice, and generally coming together constructively in a new and creative way.

First and foremost we hope to foster a community of and for people who want to or like to write. Maybe you've always wanted to write, but never had the time. Well we want you to jump in and start putting ideas on paper (so to speak) no matter how much time you have. Contribute a little, contribute a lot.

Secondly, we want to take this writing to a broad audience. When a story is getting close to completion we will begin the process of finishing it off. How will any of us know? Our editors, as well as you the contributors, will make that decision together. Once in motion, this will include locking the editing to the broad community and allowing only the editors to go through it and edit for punctuation and readability and make any minor changes they feel suits the project. As soon as that is completed we'll mark it as a finished piece for the enjoyment of the entire community and a testament to the process.

We should mention here, any major contributors will be recognized in any of these works of writing, and will also most likely be asked if they are interested in becoming Writiki editors. This will include people that are particularly helpful to other Writiki.com members as well, whether it be in the writing itself, or on the discussion pages. All in all, this should be a fun and rewarding experience for the group as a whole!

Getting Started

If you've never been here before the best thing to do is to go to the Start Writing page (link at the top as well). Here you will see a list of some stories that have already been started. A great way to get into things is to contribute to a piece that has already been started. It can be adding a word here, changing a word there, fixing some punctuation, adding a character, writing whole paragraphs, anything. Don't worry about stepping on other peoples toes, so to speak, that is the point of this project. And try not to get upset if someone else changes some of your writing, they will! But that's the point. We are all trying to work together to come up with a voice that is us, and that means that we all must work together.

Discussion Forum

If you're not sure or not ready to write, another great place to go is the Discussion Forum. Here you will see discussions about characters, plots, general questions and FAQs, and ideas about writing, and about Writiki. Take a look! It's in a bulletin board format and you can make posts anonymously with the click of the mouse, or you can create a username and post using it.

Writiki Blog

To see the latest and greatest things that are being done at Writiki.com try going to the Writiki Blog. Here the editors will make regular posts with insights into the Writiki process, comments on the most popular stories being edited by the Writiki community, and other interesting happenings to do with the website.
